A Brief
History of the WCG Philippines
1962
- Gerald Waterhouse opened the
Philippine office in Makati,
Metro Manila, as growing
numbers of Filipinos expressed
interest in the Plain Truth
magazine and other church
publications.
1963
- The first baptism in the WCG
Philippines took place in
Northern Luzon.
1965
- The Manila Church was
planted. Plain Truth mailing
list peaked at around 200,000.
1970
- The World Tomorrow
television program was aired
over Channel 7. More local
churches were planted and a
number of Filipino church
members were ordained to
pastor them. The Philippine
Office began to oversee church
members scattered in Japan,
South Korea, Taiwan and
Micronesia.
1974
- Pastor General Herbert W.
Armstrong conducted an
evangelistic campaign at the
Araneta Coliseum in Quezon
City. About 15,000 came to
hear him.
1984
- Church membership in the
Philippines reached the 5,000
mark.
1990
- The church was registered
locally with the Securities
and Exchange commission (SEC).
1995
- The Pastor General announced
major doctrinal changes and
the WCG moved towards
evangelical orthodoxy. A large
number of members left the
church unable to accept the
transformation of the
denomination towards
evangelical orthodoxy.
1996
- Pastors and leaders began to
pursue further studies and
training to equip themselves
for the move and
transformation towards
evangelical orthodoxy.
1997
- WCG was granted an
observer
status in the
Philippine
Council of Evangelical
Churches (PCEC).
1998 -

visited the Philippines and
met with Philippine
evangelical leaders in Luzon,
Visayas and Mindanao.
1999
- WCG was recognized as a
member of the
Philippine
Council of Evangelical
Churches (PCEC).

Church of God in the
Philippines. Eugene Guzon was

Philippines by Pastor General
Joseph Tkach. The first
National Board was inducted

Randal Dick. The nine members
of the first National Board
