Dear brothers and sisters,
The grace of the Lord be upon us all. He never fails to exceed our expectations! I am sure that you have your own stories too. For me, one of the highlights of this past week was a weekend retreat. My wife and I joined two other ministers and their respective wives, in a beautiful place in Surigao, Mindanao for a time of physical, emotional and spiritual refreshment.
In our devotional that weekend, we just focused on Psalm 104:1-35. Verse 24-25 says, “How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small.” If we are looking for audio-visual aids to understand what the author of the psalm was talking about, the place where we were at the time definitely provided it.
As we looked all around us, and above us, beneath the waters, everything teems with life and beauty. His signature is all around us. Even the sea seems to breathe as the waves made a kind of breathing motion.
During our devotional that Sunday morning, I asked one of our friends if there is anything else he could add to the observation of the psalmist. He said, “The Lord can make trees grow on rocks!” For most of us, that is hardly possible, but nothing is impossible with God.
We praise God for such a display of His grace and sovereignty. In the midst of the complexity of this world, we have a God who cares. We have a God who calls us, loves us, and ministers to us in many loving ways.
In the book of Matthew, Jesus said that no sparrow falls to the ground without His knowledge. And we are more than sparrows! If He takes care of the plants on rocks, or those small creatures, how much more can and does He take care of our needs! He is not only the source of our lives, He is our salvation.
Sometimes we take for granted these daily miracles of God in our lives, because of our routine demands and busy schedules. We live in a fast-paced world, and every day the stress of modern living can leave us physically and emotionally drained and burnt out. But I hope that you too will be able to find time to set aside for quiet reflection and physical rejuvenation.
It is my prayer that even if we could not go to those remote and unique places, we can still hear Him speak, we can still see His wonderful work and we can put our trust in Him. And for one good reason – He never fails!
